We went for a day trip to Rhode Island today. We took a drive through Newport and out to the Fort Adams State Park. While in Newport we visited the Astors' Beechwood MansionAddress:. Built in 1851, it was bought by William Backhouse Astor in 1981 as a gift to his wife, and became the social center of the elite of the day. They have actors in period costumes which interact with the guests and answer questions about the lives and times of the late 1800's. It was very interesting to see such a grand estate. There were many beautiful homes on the island and the Eisenhower house which was known as the Summer White House during the Eisenhower administration. It was a rainy day but we took some time to walk on the rocks by the ocean.
