Well for Parker, no visit to the middle of California would be complete without a visit to Apple Computers headquarters in Cupertino. Although they do not give any kind of tour of the facility, they do have a huge Apple Store there and we were able to pick up some mementos. While in San Jose we also spent a day at the "Tech Museum" a very interesting museum that caters to kids and has two floors of hands-on displays and an iMax theater.
Bruce came back to the family on the 28th and we went back to Las Vegas Halloween. We took the kids to some local neighborhoods and they filled their bags is record time. Heading to California tomorrow.
Moved in to the Charleston Peak RV Park in Pahrump, NV. Pahrump is in the high desert area of Nevada with no real trees to speak of, and rocky plains in all directions. We will be here for the next couple of weeks while Bruce goes to work. There is a winery on the property which is amazing as there is only about 7 inches of rain a year! They told us on the tour that they do import some of their grapes. There is a library fairly close which is vital to Hunter, our voracious reader. He has started his own blog "TheBookHunter" on which he will put some of his thoughts on books, movies and life, I suppose. There is a big RV wash bay here and the boys and Bruce spent a couple of hours washing the motor home and the car.
We pulled into Las Vegas on the 10th and stayed at the Oasis RV Resort. We fournd it to be a lot nicer than we expected with wide roads and relatively clean. We drove the strip at about 9 PM and dropped by the "Gold & Silver Pawn Shop" where the TV show "Pawn Stars" is filmed. Later we stood outside of the Bellagio Hotel and watched a water fountain display that was really good. We had an extra day to laze around before our next destnation so the kids hung out at the pool and Mom ana Dad just relaxed.
We took a nice drive up to the Cedar Breaks National Monument in Cedar Breaks, UT on Saturday the 9th on Oct. What a beautiful place! You drive up the mountain to about 10,500 feet to look down into some huge valleys. It was really amazing, and to top it off, there was snow up there. We spent about an hour just letting the kids and the dog run around in a big field with about 6 inches. This was Jedi's first exposure to snow and he had a ball.
We're in Denver Co. staying at a nice State Park called Cherry Creek. It's right in the southern part of town and close to a lot of things. We had been having a problem with the idle speed on the diesel engine of the motor home, so I took some time to take it to a place for service. As it turned out their equipment was not working that week, so after driving all the way over there for our appointment, we had to go ahead and park at the RV park and call a mobile repair guy that the workshop suggested. Well as it turns out the guy we called, "Green City RV Repair" was cheaper by about half than the shop we were at in the first place! The guy was able to tell me in a few minutes what exactly was wrong and where to get the parts. I picked them up the next day and and had it fixed in about an hour.
Of course no visit to Denver is complete without a visit to the Casa Bonita, for some Mexican food and entertainment. They do some cliff diving inside the restaurant! We also drove around the downtown area for part of a day to see the sights.
It's the 2nd of October and we are leaving South Dakota, and heading southwest. First stop Cheyenne, Wyoming for the night. We often spend one or two nights "on the road" at a Truck stop, a Walmart or in this case a McDonald's that had a big RV parking area behind it. We have on-board water power and Satellite TV so we're really "at Home" almost everywhere! In the morning we were pleased to see these Deer right outside our door. Jedi was very interested!
Suzanne and the boys went on a "Safari" through Bear Country USA, a park where you drive your car on a trail through the many animal venues. Of course there are Bears, but they also have Deer, Antelope, Reindeer, Mountain Goats, Foxes, Wolves etc. etc. Mom was a little bit nervous but the kids say they were unconcerned.?. Hmmm
It was a really beautiful day when we went to Mount Rushmore. We went through the tour and museum they have there and got a few pictures. What a great monument!
On Sunday afternoon we pulled into Rapid City, SD and Rushmore Shadows Resort, our home for the next three weeks. The kids and Suzanne prepared for a couple of weeks of hard school days while I prepared for a couple of weeks of work. Don't worry they didn't have to study hard every day, they took a few field trips as well. One of which was to the Journey Museum which is a combination of Natural History and the Cosmos. Check out the link for a complete rundown, but needless to say there was a TON of information to take in, maybe a little much for a one day visit.
