Suzanne and the boys went on a "Safari" through Bear Country USA, a park where you drive your car on a trail through the many animal venues. Of course there are Bears, but they also have Deer, Antelope, Reindeer, Mountain Goats, Foxes, Wolves etc. etc. Mom was a little bit nervous but the kids say they were unconcerned.?. Hmmm
It was a really beautiful day when we went to Mount Rushmore. We went through the tour and museum they have there and got a few pictures. What a great monument!
On Sunday afternoon we pulled into Rapid City, SD and Rushmore Shadows Resort, our home for the next three weeks. The kids and Suzanne prepared for a couple of weeks of hard school days while I prepared for a couple of weeks of work. Don't worry they didn't have to study hard every day, they took a few field trips as well. One of which was to the Journey Museum which is a combination of Natural History and the Cosmos. Check out the link for a complete rundown, but needless to say there was a TON of information to take in, maybe a little much for a one day visit.
Have you seen the signs: "Visit Wall Drug" along the highways of America? Well we finally did. It is a drug store that was founded during the depression and never stopped growing (even though the town did). ;) Also in South Dakota the boys had the opportunity to ride some rather large Buffalo and Jack-a-lopes!
Monday the 6th we stopped in Chicago for a short visit, and although I have absolutely no pictures to prove it, we had a good time visiting with Bryan and Susan at their house in Glen Ellyn, IL. The first night we had a dinner at their house and the kids enjoyed playing with their cousins. The next day we caught the train into the city, and put a few miles on our sneakers walking around the downtown area, marveling at the architecture and artwork. In the evening we went back to Glen Ellyn and ate dinner at "Honey Cafe" where Susan is the Chef. Although she was not on duty at the time the food was wonderful. We left on the 8th heading for Des Moines, IA.
Well we're finally on our way after a brief delay. I decided to change the fuel filter on the motorhome yesterday before we left, which turned out to be a little more involved than I thought! Oh well, I'll know better next time.
Form Aug. 15th through the 11th of Sep. we were parked in Suzanne's home town, North Bay. I went back to work in Louisiana while Suzanne and the boys got busy with the school year. Suzanne was able to visit with her parents and siblings on several occasions, the boys enjoyed going to the local library for books and internet. Jedi's ear is looking better!
